چکیده

Due to constantly increasing traffic loads and ageing infrastructure, innovative materials for implementation in renovation new bridge construction projects are gaining attention. One such innovation is hybrid structures consisting of Glass Fibre-Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) composite decks connected a steel girder(s) superstructure. By combining the stiffness provided by members with superior fatigue endurance strength weight ratio FRP, properties both can be efficiently exploited. The main restriction steel-FRP lies lack knowledge efficient technical solutions connection between two materials. Adhesively bonded grouted connections have been identified as possible systems, whereas limited research has performed on bolted connections. To address this gap, paper discusses an experimental investigation into performance types slip-resistant connectors, namely conventional resin injected bolts novel connector system developed at TU Delft comprising reinforced (iSRR). Connectors’ evaluated means long-term (sustained cyclic) short-term experiments shear load. A single-lap joint configuration used compare types. vacuum infused GFRP multi-directional laminated plate, 20 mm thick, plates M20 bolts. Results indicate comparable stiffness, resistance ductility experiments. Superior iSRR found 100 times more fully reversed load cycles that needed reach same failure criterion

Fatigue behaviour of nanoclay reinforced epoxy resin composites

Nanoparticle filling is a feasible way to increase the mechanical properties of polymer matrices. Abundant research work has been published in the last number of years concerning the enhancement of the mechanical properties of nanoparticle filled polymers, but only a reduced number of studies have been done focusing on the fatigue behaviour. This work analyses the influence of nanoclay reinforc...

Effect of Surface Preparation on the Strength of FRP-to-Mild Steel and FRP-to-Stainless Steel Joints

A detailed understanding of the strength and behaviour of the bond between fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites to metals is an ongoing field of research. The many different geometrical and material parameters make for extensive research demands. This paper in turn reports a series of tests on the shear strength and behaviour of FRP-to metal joints in which the main test parameters, which ...

A Review on Strengthening Steel Beams Using FRP under Fatigue

In recent decades, the application of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for strengthening structural elements has become an efficient option to meet the increased cyclic loads or repair due to corrosion or fatigue cracking. Hence, the objective of this study is to explore the existing FRP reinforcing techniques to care for fatigue damaged structural steel elements. This study covers the...

Behaviour of eccentric loading of FRP confined fibre steel reinforced concrete columns

This paper presents results of testing 16 specimens, 12 of which as columns under different eccentricities and four as beams under four point loading regime. All 16 specimens were circular in cross section and were made of reinforced concrete. Four specimens served as reference specimens and were just made of reinforced concrete. The next four specimens were wrapped with Carbon Fibre Reinforced...
